That’s when I saw him—shirt unbuttoned to his toes, sipping a juice box like he owned the whole island. He was holding a gnome and didn’t even flinch when I tripped over a crab trying to jump past.
“Burb,” I muttered under my breath, trying to hide my boredom.
He looked up, smiled noisily, and rolled toward me.
“Oh Lordy,” I said. “You look just like Elmo… but better.”
He laughed, leaned in close, and whispered, “I was hoping we’d end the night shopping.
